The “Wisdom Pit” project
When I was in grade school, every student sent up a balloon with our addresses attached in hopes of someone mailing us back with their experience of finding our lucky balloon. (This was before we knew they were bad for the environment) I always thought of this as an interesting experiment in chance.
In July 2007, I began the “Wisdom Pit Project” and not unlike the balloons voyage, it’s existence relies on the experience of the participants. The pits are made of clay and contain one of six sayings appropriated from a 1950s book instructing housewives on how to run a proper household. Once lifted from the book, I found these sayings intriguing and applicable to other situations as well. I have designated myself as the distributor by sending little baggies of wisdom pits out to friends who secretly put them in public places. Either inside or out, but covertly.

So thus, the game begins. There is a “hider” and a “finder.” The goal of the “hider” is to hide the wisdom pits with the intent of them being discovered by a ‘finder,’ who randomly comes across the wisdom pits.
Both the “hider” and “finder” are prompted to go to www.wisdompitproject.blogspot.com where they can upload images and document their experiences.
HIDER:
Where did you hide them?
Describe your experiences of covertly planting the wisdom pits
Did you see who picked them up?
Please submit images if available

FINDER:
Where were you going when you found it?
What time of day was it?
What was the weather like?
Were you alone or with someone?
What was written on the slip of paper?
What did it mean to you?
What feeling did you get from your discovery?
If you could impart any wisdom to the public, what would it be?
Please submit images if available.
You too. Submit images.
